Holistic Remedies to Quit Smoking
Mar 23, 2012I’d like to share some holistic tips for quitting smoking. I have thankfully never been a smoker, but as I mentioned in my last post, I have quit drinking alcohol, so I know a little bit about how to quit something.
Lately I’ve been very bothered by smokers. I have a small pup and she comes to work with me. When I take her for walks at lunchtime and after work, we pass many, many people on their cigarette breaks. When you hold a cigarette at waist-level that’s great because it’s not blowing in other people’s faces, however it is right at puppy level, which is a bummer for Coconut and the other pups out on the mean streets of New York.
I believe that quitting smoking is the single best thing you can do for your own health, and the health of your friends, family and community. Here is where I would start if I needed to quit smoking or was giving someone else advice:
1. Identify your desire to quit smoking.
2. Get the book The Easy Way to Stop Smoking
I learned about this book from a patient who used it to help her become a non-smoker. The patient had also gone to a live Easy Way seminar, which helped her and her mother. I bought it right away and gave it to a friend who wanted to quit smoking and it worked like magic. Does it seem strange that a book could help you quit smoking? Just look at the hundreds of positive reviews on Amazon – this is a powerful book.
3. Schedule a hypnosis session
Hypnosis can’t make you want to quit, but it is effective if you have commited to yourself that you want to quit. It will help that commitment to sink in on a deeper, subconscious level. If you’re in New York, check out Sera Levelle at NY Health Hypnosis, who also has a PhD in Clinical Psychology.
4. Explore homeopathic remedies
A co-worker recommends this homeopathic Quit Smoking Kit made by Boiron. This helps with nicotine withdrawal and is very cheap.
I truly hope this can help someone out there to seek out the support and tools to quit smoking. Do it for Coconut!
