At least once a week, I get an email from someone who is completely exhausted and in desperate need of support. Often they are bouncing from doctor to doctor and not getting better. The good news is that there is a LOT you can do at home to start feeling better. From the food you’re eating, to sleeping more soundly, some simple yoga poses, breathing exercises, and supplements – you can do so much to regain the skip in your step.

If someone lives far away and I can’t help them in person, these are the suggestions I provide to point them in the right direction.

To read
Dr. Lipman’s book Revive is a fantastic resource. It’s available on Amazon for all of $0.96. There’s lots of support in there for boosting energy, improving sleep, restorative yoga poses, breathing exercises, reducing stress, supporting your adrenals, simple meditations, and a healing diet.

This is one of those “bibles” that you can refer back to over and over again. It’s not overwhelming, but allows you to get empowered to restore your health. One of my favorite tips from the book is to practice an “Electronic Sundown” which means you turn off all your gadgets — computer, cellphone, tv — one hour before bed. This saves you from the stimulation of your electronics and allows your body to wind down and start producing melatonin to prepare for sleep. It works beautifully!

To eat
The next thing you can do is start to follow a restorative diet, removing the foods that are a drain on your energy and eating healing foods instead. The biggest thing is to take wheat and sugar out of your diet – if it’s white, get it out of sight! Here is a Daily Living diet plan you can follow. Start with cleaning up your breakfast, and then go from there.

To supplement

To do
I know it can be overwhelming when you’re exhausted. Start small. Work on improving your sleep by keeping your bedroom very dark, doing the Electronic Sundown and cutting out caffeine. Then clean up your diet, starting with breakfast. And try to spend some time in nature – nothing is more healing than fresh air, chirping birds and sunshine.
